WeSportFish is a multi-community, multi-stakeholder initiative devoted to helping celebrate and protect recreational angling on the last free flowing section of the mighty Columbia River. We celebrate the health and abundance of the fishery through the eyes and stories of our anglers and guides, and we protect our river by uniting singular voices into a consortium with the ability to create awareness and to influence change. The name WeSportFish was chosen to symbolize formation of an alliance with a vested interest in the local sport fishing community.
Who Governs WeSportFish...
WeSportFish was envisioned by Community Futures of Greater Trail in late 2014 as a way to increase opportunities for waterway recreation. Three years of inter-community discussion with organizations, businesses, environmental protection persons, anglers, guides, and many others led to a phased plan to develop WeSportFish into what it is today.
WeSportFish is guided by a core group of volunteer committee members with representation from Community Futures, the Trail/Rossland Chamber of Commerce, the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, Destination Castlegar, Black Press Media, businesses, and a local guiding company.
