This report covers four days of fishing with clients from April 24 to April 27. There was one beautiful sunny day, but mostly the weather was a mixed bag with sun, clouds, showers and heavy wind at times.
Each day we started out around 10:30 am. We were casting 8-weight rods with full sink lines, a short 5-foot leader, and burnt orange woolly buggers. A lot of the bigger fish were still doing their annual river bed spawning movement so we moved away from the spawning areas and targeted non-traditional water using the swing and strip method.
Most trout landed were between 16 and 20 inches. A father and his 12-year-old son hooked into 12 rainbows and landed and released 6. This was a fairly average days fishing. The rainbows were really aggressive with powerful strikes and lots of jumps and aerobatics. We found mornings and late afternoon to be the best fishing.
The water is still a little low, but is on its way up. My clients all had a great time and they all got to land some nice hard fitting Columbia River Rainbow Trout. Until next time Dwayne.
