New Guide in Town
WSF Editor Jim Bailey met up with Chillbilly Sportfishing Charters owner Graham Cloutier. Graham introduced Jim to his new assistant guide Darrell Cross. Darrell has fished the mighty Columbia for 30 years, and runs a sweet 22-foot Thunder Jet Alexis Classic with rear fishing platform and all the bells and whistles.
The new partnership broadens Chillbilly’s scope to cover the entire Canadian side of the Columbia River fishery, from the tailwaters of the Arrow Lake locks to the USA border. Clients now have a full array of fishing expeditions, from quiet drift boat tours, walk-in casting tours, scenic and relaxing creek fishing, winter ice fishing, and now jet boat tours.
Darrell is a serial entrepreneur. Amongst other things, Darrell and Viola just opened their new Wolfs Den on the River, a beautiful fishing retreat right on the banks of the Columbia. Both are heavily involved in the local sport fishing ecosystem and plan to host fly fishing workshops and events in the warmer summer months. Darrell also does back-country 4×4 tours, sightseeing tours, zodiac tours for the more adventurous outings, and is the proprietor of Wolf’s Den Tattoo Inc in Trail and Castlegar.
We Sport Fish is honoured to welcome Darrell into the We Sport Fish ecosystem of expert fly fishers who share their knowledge and stories about this amazing fishery we affectionately and respectfully call the Mighty Columbia River.
